A photograph, while appearing two dimensional, has far greater depth beyond the paper on which it’s printed. I believe that photography is about telling stories – about capturing people, places and events in such a way that those who see the images will experience them the same way I did in the moments that I shot them.
While there is a time and a place for shooting in the studio, whether in my home base of New York City or elsewhere, my passion lies in photographing life as it unfolds naturally. Whether shooting portraits, weddings, or independent projects, I take the same genuine approach.
For this to happen, I cannot simply stand back and release the shutter but rather engage in my subjects and the world around me. Most often this requires taking risks and allowing myself to feel vulnerable, which brings honesty to my images and has shaped who I am as a photographer.
